This eighth-grade South Carolina Future Stars team was very talented across the board. While the O-Line and D-Line had some bright spots, the skill position kids really impressed from practice to practice and into the game day(s). The Palmetto State is certainly on the come up in terms of its youth football players getting a light shined on them early, but these guys have certainly jumped on the radar earlier than others, by playing in the Future Stars Game. Here’s a look at the 2028 prospects that caught my eye.

A big, physical Offensive Tackle that did a great job of moving his 6-foot-3, 285-pound frame in rhythm. Played with excellent feet for a lineman at this age and level of development. Was able to ride out even the quickest rushers off the edge. Then could turn around on the next play and completely wash out the interior defensive linemen with a down block or combo block.

Without question, Davis is one of the top 2028 prospects in the state of South Carolina, as of June 2024. One of several bigger, taller Wide Receivers on the 8th grade South Carolina Future Stars. He looked extremely polished and I watched him run nearly the entire route tree over the course of a few practices, he’s a budding star that should offers start to come his way in the near future.

Like Teru Davis Teru Davis 6'1" | 170 lbs | WR Goose Creek | 2028 SC (listed above), Goose Creek is also the home of RB/LB Hayden Denmark Hayden Denmark 5'10" | 160 lbs | LB Goose Creek | 2028 SC . Denmark and Davis were part of an insanely talented 8th grade middle school team this past year during the regular season and the duo again linked up on the 8th grade South Carolina Future Stars. Denmark originally caught my eye during RB drills, but his ability at Linebacker set him apart. He was fast to the ball, was in good position more times than not and showed off some very advanced ball skills for an Outside ‘Backer.

Prior to even knowing he had an Uncle that made it to the NFL, Shropshire was a South Carolina prospect that caught my eye quickly. Upon walking up to the linemen at practice, from after, I saw a Defensive End that clearly relied on speed during 1-on-1s. Shropshire inevitably turned out to be the kid I saw and after watching hm play for several days–there is so much potential in his 6-foot-2, 185-pound body…it’s insane. He’s extremely raw and still needs to work on the simple D-End thinks such as stance and bending the edge to get flat down the line–but there’s a lot here. A combination of genetics, size and speed–he’s a blank canvas for coaches to help paint on.

Howard caught my eye very quickly during indy drills, where he was clearly the most well-balanced Running Back of all the prospects on the 8th grade South Carolina Future Stars. His running style was reminiscent of a bat jetting out of a chimney, in the fact that he swooped low to the ground and almost attacked the defensive players and dared them to make a move. I took a strong liking to Howard.

When it comes to potential, Gleaton may take the cake in terms of the prospects on this 8th grade South Carolina Future Stars team. He’s listed on the roster at 6-foot-2 and 195-pounds–and he’s every bit of the height, with perhaps a few All-You-Can-Eat Buffets aways from being at that weight. He ran routes that blew past the Defensive Backs and the Outside Linebackers up the seem. At the same time, he muscled up and for a tough dude across the middle. Depending on how he develops further, as his size now, I could easily see him playing a difference-making Tight End or a mismatch-causing Wide Receiver.

Thinking back and looking at notes, Jadon Pringle-Jackson Jadon Pringle-Jackson 6'0" | 230 lbs | DL Goose Creek | 2028 SC was probably the only Defensive Linemen that gave Jeremiah McGowan Jeremiah McGowan 6'3" | 285 lbs | OL Cardinal Newman | 2028 SC much of a challenge during 1-on-1s during the practice I really focused in on this 8th grade South Carolina Future Stars teak. His combination of power and speed kept all the Offensive Linemen on their heels. Come with good size, and as already mentioned with Teru Davis Teru Davis 6'1" | 170 lbs | WR Goose Creek | 2028 SC and Hayden Denmark Hayden Denmark 5'10" | 160 lbs | LB Goose Creek | 2028 SC …that Goose Creek 2028 class, is a lot to handle.

Fell in love with Coffman from the second I saw him play with violence going through the most mundane drills. While I didn’t know it ahead of time, he played JV this year as an 8th grader and more than held his own. As practice(s) went on, he also got reps as an Edge and as a Running Back. While there’s plenty of time left in terms of development, he looks an athletic Middle Linebacker that can do a number of different things on the field, if asked to.

Additional South Carolina 8thGrade (Class of 2028) Future Stars That Stood Out
Bryson McMoore | Linebacker | TBA High School – A thick Middle Linebacker that would eventually be the day-one starter for the 8th grade South Carolina Future Stars. He moved well enough during cone drills and other practice periods where he had to move around in space. Has ability, but has to watch out for a thickening-frame, as he continues through the ranks.
Makai Williams-Taylor Makai Williams-Taylor 5'8" | 220 lbs | DL South Point | 2028 SC | Defensive Line | South Point – One of the best kids I was around during Future Stars week, always upbeat and giving it one hundred percent. Built low to the ground at just 5-foot-8, but had enough weight at 220-pounds, to withstand some of the bigger O-Linemen. He’s growing in up of one of the football hotbeds of the country in Rock Hill, SC, so time will tell how he continues to develop.
Braylen Harley Braylen Harley RB SC | Running Back | TBA High School – In practice he played both Running Back and Outside Linebacker and caught my eye at both positions. He moved very well in space, but specifically looked he belonged in the backfield.
Lyndez Smith Lyndez Smith 5'9" | 220 lbs | ATH Riverside | 2028 SC | Athlete | Riverside – For the third straight year in a row, Smith showed up and more closely resembled an undersized Defensive Tackle, than QB1. Then, after watching him take a few snaps at Quarterback, I quickly re-remembered how much of a standout he can be. I hope he eventually tacks on some height, because his football ability is there–so he’s a bit of a wait and see.
